The short version
RevolutionVA is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We collect the minimum information needed to run our events and communications. We do not sell your personal information, we do not rent our mailing list, and we do not share your details with sponsors.
Information we collect
We collect information in three situations, all of which you initiate:
- When you use our contact form. We receive the name, email address, and message you submit so that we can reply.
- When you subscribe to the 757 Tech newsletter. We receive your first name, last name, and email address, and we record standard email engagement data such as whether a message was delivered and opened.
- When you make a donation. Our payment processor collects your name, email address, billing details, and payment information. Card details are entered directly into the processor's systems and never touch our servers or this website.
We do not require an account to use this site, and we do not ask for information beyond what each of those actions needs.
How we use it
We use the information above to:
- Reply to enquiries you send us.
- Send the 757 Tech newsletter to people who asked for it.
- Process donations, issue receipts, and manage recurring gifts.
- Announce our events to people who have opted in to hear about them.
- Meet the record-keeping and reporting obligations of a registered nonprofit.
We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling.
Service providers
We are a small volunteer organization and rely on third-party services rather than running our own infrastructure. Each of these providers processes some data on our behalf and has its own privacy policy:
- GitHub Pages and Cloudflare — hosting and content delivery for this website. These providers process standard web server data, including IP addresses, for security and delivery.
- Formspree — receives and forwards contact form submissions.
- Bento — manages the 757 Tech newsletter mailing list and delivery.
- PayBee — processes donations, including recurring monthly gifts.
- Google Fonts, Cloudflare cdnjs, and jsDelivr — deliver fonts, icons, and JavaScript libraries used by this site. Your browser requests these files directly from those providers.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone, and we do not pass our newsletter list or attendee lists to event sponsors.
Analytics and advertising
This website does not currently run advertising, and it does not display third-party ads of any kind. If we add website analytics or advertising measurement in the future — for example, to understand which pages people find useful — we will update this policy to say so before doing it, and we will state which provider is involved.
Cookies
This site does not set cookies for tracking or advertising purposes. Our hosting and content delivery providers may set strictly necessary cookies for security and performance, and the embedded donation form may set cookies required to complete a transaction. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; doing so may prevent the donation form from working.
Email and unsubscribing
Every newsletter we send includes an unsubscribe link. Selecting it removes you from the list immediately and permanently, with no confirmation step and no follow-up. You can also email us and we will remove you by hand. We do not send unsolicited email to people who have not subscribed.
Data retention
We keep contact form correspondence for as long as it is useful to the conversation and our records. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Donation records are retained as required for nonprofit accounting, tax reporting, and audit purposes.
Children
This site is intended for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to [email protected] and we will respond. Because we are a volunteer organization, allow a few days for a reply.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and revise the "last updated" date at the top. Material changes affecting how we use information you have already given us will be announced in the newsletter.
Contact
Questions about this policy can go to [email protected], or through our contact form. Organization details, including our EIN and public filings, are listed on the contact page.
