Ten years of conferences

RevolutionVA has produced 10 conferences under two banners. RevolutionConf ran from 2016 through 2019 and accounts for 1,170 registrations. Hampton Roads DevFest started in the same year, paused alongside everything else between 2020 and 2023, came back in 2024, and accounts for 985.

The shape of that history is worth being plain about. The first four years were the two-conference era: RevolutionConf each spring, DevFest each fall, growing but demanding — two full conference productions a year from a volunteer board. Then four years with no events at all.

What came back in 2024 was smaller in scope: one conference instead of two, and 182 registrations for it, level with the last DevFest before the pause. The 2026 edition did better at 255 — the strongest DevFest to date, though still below what RevolutionConf drew in its final years. The single best-attended event we have run remains RevolutionConf 2019, with 331 registrations.

We now concentrate on one annual conference plus year-round Pop-up Meetups and the 757 Tech newsletter, rather than two large events competing for the same volunteers.
